Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in Western North Carolina, decimating vibrant arts communities. The artists and craftspeople who call these mountains their home, and whose work helps sustain local economies, lost their studios, equipment, supplies and inventories.
They need our help.
Some artists have turned to crowdfunding sites like GoFundMe and Kickstarter. Others rely on sales through galleries and e-commerce. Still others are asking for donations via Venmo or Cash app.
Handmade for Help serves as a centralized location for artists to share their stories. Our goal is to amplify, direct traffic, and make it easy for potential patrons to support them.
Additionally, many makers not directly impacted by the storm have pledged their support by donating a portion of their proceeds to artists and organizations devoted to rebuilding the affected region. We want to promote these generous maker-activists and shed light on their efforts too.
The idea of the "care economy" is people putting their money where their hearts are. Let's give back to those who through their hands, bring the heart and soul to the mountains of western North Carolina.
