Louis Ruttenberg is a classically trained musician who performed for 23 seasons as the associate principal oboist for the Houston Symphony Orchestra. After retiring, he attended the Culinary Institute of America and ran a catering business for 11 years. Thereafter, he supervised a vocational cooking program for special needs young adults. Seven years ago, his passion drew him to working with clay. Upon relocating to WNC, he studied with local artists and honed his skills. He works at cone 6 in an electric kiln as well as in various alternative methods of firing and is fascinated by the natural interplay of chemical and mineral reactions.
