On September 27, Hurricane Helene flooded the Local Cloth studio, which is located in Asheville's River Arts District, the entire Retail Shop was wiped our and inventory from over 70 fiber artists and farmers destroyed. With the doors of our brick and mortar Shop temporarily closed, Local Cloth has opened a special Online Shop for the holidays, featuring selected items from our vendors. Winner of the 2024 Best in Asheville Award for Best Boutique Shop, the Local Cloth Retail Shop represents multiple types of fiber materials and arts, including weaving, knitting, felting, crochet, eco-printing, paper, books, sewing, marbling, batik, quilting, garden products, roving and spun yarn. All purchases from our Online Retail Shop support both the fiber artists and farmers (who handcrafted the item or raised the animals that produced the fiber sold) and the work of Local Cloth, enabling us to continue providing programming and events that strengthen our local fiber economy. Sustained by a passion for fiber, Local Cloth is a volunteer-led non-profit network of fiber artists, farmers, small-scale fiber processors, educators and fiber enthusiasts, dedicated to growing and supporting the local fiber economy in Western North Carolina and increasing awareness of and access to regional production and artisan practices.
