Keira Peterson is a ceramic artist whose work is embodied by simple forms and minimal designs. Her process clears her mind with a meditative state of focus, resulting in pleasing work with calming subtle curves and soothing textures. She graduated with an Associates degree of Visual Arts at Corning Community College where she was recognized with an Excellence in Art Award in 2012. She then continued her studies at SUNY New Paltz where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts and was awarded Outstanding Graduate in the Arts Department in 2014. Inspired by the large community of extraordinary artists and the rich history of ceramic art in the area, she moved to Asheville in 2017 to continue her informal education. She was accepted into The Village Potters Clay Center’s Independent Study and Mentorship program as a Studio Apprentice, from 2017-2019 and again in 2020-2021. It was during the Independent Study and Mentorship Program where she continued to expand her skills and style, cultivating the modern designs she is known for today, and where she developed her passion for teaching wheel throwing. After her studio was destroyed by Hurricane Helene in September 2024, she found refuge at Plays in Mud Pottery in Asheville NC where she continues to create and sell her distinguished modern functional ceramic works.
